OUR COMMITMENT
The Hukumu Project exists to produce open, voluntary standards that anyone can use. We make the following commitments to everyone who contributes to or relies on our work.

Specifications, definitions, and documentation are published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). Reference architectures and code are published under the Apache License 2.0.
Every person, organization, and company can use the project’s work products on the same terms. This includes any commercial venture that Petoskey Research Institute, a future host organization, or anyone involved in the project may form. No one receives early, exclusive, or privileged access.
Contributions to project work products are made under the same open licenses. Contributors keep credit for their work, and their contributions remain open.
Drafts are published for public comment before adoption. Working group membership is open to affected people and organizations in each domain.
Share your comments →Petoskey Research Institute stewards the project through its Peoplebot services area and holds the Hukumu name and marks for the project's public-interest mission, not as its own assets. PRI cannot sell, pledge, or exclusively license them without protected approval from the project's Advisory Board. PRI commits to transfer them, with its stewardship role, to a qualified independent nonprofit once defined readiness conditions are met, which we expect in roughly three to five years. We will publish our progress.
Anyone in a project leadership role will disclose commercial interests related to the project’s work.
Contributors to normative specifications will be asked to make a royalty-free commitment for patents essential to implementing them, so no one can be charged simply for following the standard.
Our open licenses cover the project's specifications, code, and documentation, not the Hukumu name or logo. Use of the name and marks follows a published, nonexclusive trademark-use policy, so no one can imply official endorsement or certification without permission. There is no Hukumu certification program today.
